Job Description
A Utility Foreman plays a crucial role in overseeing and leading a team of utility workers in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various utility systems, such as water, storm and sewer. They ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Responsibilities include leading, supervising, and training utility workers, assigning tasks, monitoring work quality, and managing crew scheduling and attendance while ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Project Planning and Execution: Tasks involve planning daily work schedules, coordinating with project managers, interpreting technical documents, performing hands-on work as needed, and maintaining accurate records of work and materials.
Safety and Compliance: Utility foremen are responsible for enforcing safety regulations, ensuring compliance with standards like OSHA, and identifying and mitigating hazards.
Equipment and Tools: This includes operating and maintaining utility tools and heavy equipment and conducting daily inspections.
Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication with team members, subcontractors, clients, and site owners is required, along with resolving problems and conflicts.
Additional Duties: Other tasks may include budget monitoring, material management, record-keeping, installing and repairing utility lines, working in various weather conditions, and lifting materials. A valid driver's license is typically required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Relevant experience in utility operations and a supervisory role is necessary, sometimes requiring specific experience with water, storm, or sewer systems.
Technical Knowledge: This includes a strong understanding of utility operations, construction techniques, the ability to interpret technical documents, proficiency with utility equipment, and knowledge of safety codes.
Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to work in a team and manage conflicts.
Other: Important skills include problem-solving, prioritizing tasks, and the ability to manage multiple activities. A valid driver's license is also required.
