Job Description

Chowan University invites applications for a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily operations of grounds maintenance across the University campus. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor ensures that all outdoor areasincluding lawns, walkways, hedges, athletic fields, and landscaped spacesare safe, attractive, and well maintained. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and skilled in leading a team in a hands?on, outdoor work environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, and oversee daily grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, planting, trimming, trash collection, and landscape upkeep.
• Direct staff in the maintenance of lawns, hedges, athletic fields, and walkways.
• Determine work priorities and assign tasks including fertilizing, irrigating, seeding, mowing, raking, and spraying.
• Maintain cost records and documentation for grounds maintenance activities.
• Order and manage materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist in set?up and support for special events on campus.
• Ensure safe work practices and high?quality standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Grounds.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
• Ability to supervise personnel and assign work effectively.
• Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
• Ability to walk or stand for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.Valid drivers license with a positive driving record.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent desired.
• At least 2 years of experience in groundskeeping or a related maintenance environment.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
